The Demon Deacons' men's basketball coach, Skip Prosser, died Thursday of what is believed to be a heart attack. Prosser was 56.
Wake Forest Athletics Director Ron Wellman said Prosser's death was "a devastating loss" at a press conference Thursday night.
Prosser was found unresponsive on his office couch Thursday after he had returned from a noon jog. He was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later.
Prosser coached the Demon Deacons since the 2001 season and led them to their first No. 1 ranking. His career collegiate record was 291-146.
UNC coach Roy Williams said he was "absolutely shocked and deeply saddened" at the news.
Prosser leaves behind a wife and two sons.
No information has been released yet regarding his funeral service.
