Replacement batteries for laptops available Monday
Replacements for the Sony batteries recalled at the beginning of October will be available Monday in the Undergraduate Library.
A battery replacement table will be set up from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
Priscilla Alden, assistant vice chancellor for user support and engagement, said students should bring a picture ID and the old battery to get a replacement.
She said she expects there will be enough supplies to replace batteries for all students and faculty who bought the Sony batteries, not just those from the CCI program.
New advertising outlet available for UNC groups
A new television in the Student Union will offer student groups and University departments new means for informing students about campus activities.
The trial program, called ActiviTv, will air advertisements for campus events on the 42-inch plasma screen for a cost of $25 per week, said Megan McGuire, the Union's marketing and design manager.
McGuire said that the necessary installments should be complete this weekend, and that ActiviTV should be running Monday. In addition, two monitors will be posted at the Union's information desk.
Depending on student response to the new system, Union officials will decide in April whether to purchase the equipment.
Saturday Garba benefits Millennium Village Project
Delta Sigma Iota Inc. and UNC's Sangam are hosting a Garba - a traditional North Indian dance - at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Great Hall.
A live band from India will perform, and there also will be a bone marrow registration drive at the event. All proceeds go towards the Millennium Village Project.
The project is a student-led movement uniting several campus student groups as well as individuals and corporations.
An alliance between Duke University and UNC began last semester, and Bennett College announced Wednesday that it is joining the other two universities.
Organizers hope to raise $1.5 million to support a village in Kenya and stop extreme poverty in the area.
