Student Body President-elect J.J. Raynor was beaming at Monday night's Student Congress meeting.

Congress approved Raynor's selections for vice president, secretary and treasurer without a single objection.

"We were looking for different things from different people," Raynor said. "For Todd (Dalrymple) and Pedro (Carreno's) positions, experience is very helpful. But Andrew (Daub's) job requires more of an outside viewpoint."

Dalrymple will serve as vice president, Carreno as treasurer and Daub as secretary.

All three were first chosen from an applicant pool by different selection committees that then gave Raynor their top three choices.

Out of the three recommended candidates for each position, the ones selected were the committees' No. 1 choices.

And though Dalrymple and Carreno both have extensive experience with student government, that wasn't the committees' top factor.

"We've had officers in the past who weren't as experienced in student government but who did amazing things," said Christie Cunningham, senior adviser for the outgoing administration who served on the selection committees.

Applicants were given time to explain to Congress their reasons for applying before being approved.

"As an English major, words are my cup of tea," Daub told Congress. "That's perfect for a position that serves as the bridge between student government and students."

All members of the administration have been working on assuming their new roles so they can hit the ground running after today's inauguration.

"Todd and I talk about 20 billion times a day, and I told him all the mistakes I made so that he won't make them," Vice President Mike Tarrant said at the meeting.

Raynor's chief of staff and senior adviser also were chosen by members of the current administration, although those positions did not have to be approved by Congress.

Also approved at the meeting was Lisa Williford for student attorney general. Elias Pratt was approved to be Honor System outreach coordinator, as was Caroline Schneider for Honor Court chairwoman.
