TO THE EDITOR:
As of Sept. 23, Paul Cox, Robin Sinhababu, Liz Veazey and Jenna Cramer have joined Cameron Morgan, Christy Edmonson and Charlie Anderson as the student members of the Renewable Energy Special Projects Committee (RESPC).
Formed as a result of the Green Energy Fee's successful passage through the student body this February (with 74.5 percent of students voting in favor), the committee has been working hard recently to move the fee through further approval processes.
It also has been seeking possible projects should the fee be approved.
The administration and staff members of the committee -- Carolyn Elfland, associate vice chancellor for campus services; Ray DuBose, director of energy services; Ralph Taylor, energy manager of energy services; and Sustainability Coordinator Cindy Shea -- also have been extremely helpful in working with the student members towards making the fee a success.
For those of you unfamiliar with the fee, if passed through the remaining steps for approval, it will be designated to support renewable energy projects such as photovoltaic panels or solar thermal arrays.
As students, we work with building teams, Energy Services and the administration to advocate for the fee as well as coordinate with them on which projects to choose.
We now are taking applications for our subsidiary positions, which any UNC student may apply for.
Enthusiasm for the project is the only requirement, and freshmen and sophomores are especially welcome, as this will be a long-term project requiring student continuity.
If you have Web design skills, grant-writing experience, would like to work on public relations or simply would like to know more about what could be the most groundbreaking opportunity for student involvement on campus, please send an e-mail to canderso@email.unc.edu to obtain an application.
