The brothers of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity formally dedicated a Habitat for Humanity home in Chapel Hill on Saturday to honor Courtland Smith.
Smith, the former DKE president, was killed by a police officer near Greensboro on the morning of Aug. 23, according to police. Smith had been driving drunk and called 911, asking for help.
The house has been under construction by DKE brothers and other volunteers since DKE pledged in January to complete the house in honor of Smith. It is located on Gracie Circle in the Phoenix Place subdivision.
It will go to Lion, 42, and Zar Ree Wei, 39, Burmese immigrants working as UNC housekeepers.
