Someone assaulted two women and fired a gun early this morning on Franklin Street, then possibly fled toward campus.

According to Chapel Hill police reports, the incident occurred at 108 E. Franklin St. — where Walgreens is located — at around 2:10 a.m.

No one was injured in the shooting.

The suspect, a black male, was wearing a white coat with brown trim.

The University is currently operating under an alert condition. According to an Alert Carolina message, the incident is not an immediate safety threat.

Police are asking anyone with information that may help to identify the suspect to call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515. Calls are confidential and anonymous. You can also submit information to Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestoppers-chcunc.org.
