The UNC Board of Elections certified Will Lindsey and Christy Lambden to be on the ballot for student body president Tuesday night.

Candidates had to collect at least 1,250 signatures in one week to be certified for official candidacy. Signatures could be collected in person or online.

Lindsey gathered the most with 1,927 signatures, and Lambden had 1,890 signatures.

Lambden said he used a three-part strategy to reach the signature quota.

“We had a lot of people on the ground this week and dorm storming, and we also had the online element,” he said.

“The campaign team and I are really looking forward to getting started,” he added.

Lindsey attributed his certification to his team’s efforts to meet the quota.

“Our on-campus presence was our biggest draw for signatures,” Lindsey said. “We had a strong team on campus, mostly around the Pit.”

Candidates Hetali Lodaya, Rob Jones and Kevin Claybren did not meet the required number of signatures, but will be given a 24-hour grace period to collect additional signatures. If they obtain at least 1,250 signatures, they will be added to the ballot.

The election for student body president will be held February 12.
