A Chapel Hill resident and former UNC student died early this morning in a car accident on Old N.C. 86.

Jacquelyn Renee Taft was travelling on Old N.C. 86 in Orange County, 3.2 miles north of Carrboro, at about 2:30 a.m. She ran off the road to the right, overcorrected and crossed back over the highway to the left, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Her vehicle overturned several times and struck multiple trees, officials said. Taft’s speed at the time of the accident is unknown.

Taft, 22, resided in Chapel Hill, according to the highway patrol. According to Taft’s Facebook page, she graduated from the University in 2012 and attended Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough.
