Four students were injured in a school bus crash near Pathways Elementary School in Hillsborough Tuesday afternoon.

Two Orange County Schools buses crashed at about 3:30 p.m. near N.C. Highway 57 and Strouds Creek Road after the elementary school was dismissed, according to Orange County Emergency Services Director Jim Groves.

The students were transported to Duke Hospitals with what appeared to be minor injuries, Groves said.

The students were taken to the hospital as a precaution, said Michael Gilbert, the student discipline and safety officer for Orange County Schools.

Bus 183, which was carry 21 students, rear-ended Bus 46, which was carrying 38 students, Gilbert said.

As of 5:30 p.m., N.C. Highway Patrol officers were still conducting an investigation at the scene. No further information could be provided.
