UPDATE, 8 p.m.: An Elon University student died today in a fall from Morrison Residence Hall, according to an email from Smith Jackson, the vice president for student life at Elon.

Demitri Allison, from Cornelius, was a wide receiver on Elon's football team. The email states he left campus Tuesday and that friends and family asked police to look for him.

“Everyone associated with Elon athletics is devastated,” said Athletics Director Dave Blank in a statement in the email. “Demitri was a talented young man with a bright future who was loved by his teammates. We mourn his loss deeply and we pray for his family and loved ones.”

The Department of Public Safety is investigating an injury that happened near Morrison Residence Hall just before 4:30 p.m. today, UNC spokesperson Jim Gregory confirmed.

Gregory said there are reports that the individual might have fallen from the building, but DPS is still investigating. Gregory also said the person is not a UNC student.

Student Body President Houston Summers confirmed the person was transported to UNC Hospitals and that CAPS is on the scene at Morrison. Gregory said there will be counselors in the Morrison lobby for the next several hours.
