Chapel Hill Police charged Keith Robert Webster Jr., of Durham, with second degree kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a felon in relation to an attempted kidnapping near campus, which occurred approximately 11 p.m. Friday, according to a release.
The student was walking near the intersection of Kenan Street and West Cameron Avenue when police say Webster pulled up in his vehicle, armed with a silver handgun, and attempted to force the student into his vehicle. Police say the student escaped after bystanders intervened.
Webster has been transported to Orange County Jail and is now being held on a $100,000 bond, according to the release.
