North Carolina under State of Emergency

Gov. Pat McCrory issued a State of Emergency Thursday in preparation of snow and ice over the weekend.

“Given the snow and ice accumulations that are predicted, combined with gusty winds and already saturated grounds, this storm has serious potential,” McCrory said in a statement.

The winter storm, called Jonas, is predicted to strike most of the east coast.

North Carolina Twitter users have nicknamed it #snowmaggedon2016, #Snowpocalypse and #SNOWMG.

Triangle residents can expect to see between one and four inches of snow, as well as one-quarter to one-half inch of ice.
