5 uses for coconut oil

Okay, I'll admit it — I'm addicted to using coconut oil. Seriously, this stuff is good for EVERYTHING!! Here are some of my favorite uses.

1. Makeup remover

I'm constantly running out of things like makeup removing wipes, and never feel like going all the way from south campus to Franklin to pick some up. Solution: a cotton ball swabbed in a bit of coconut oil. It removes my waterproof mascara like nobody's business and doesn't irritate the sensitive skin around my eyes!

2. Moisturizing face mask

Shout out to my homie Stephen for telling me about this trick! To soothe irritated and dry skin, smooth a thin layer of coconut oil onto your face right before you go to sleep (gently wipe off excess) and in the morning, rinse thoroughly. Not only does is make your skin feel soft and moisturized, but the natural SPF 4 will help protect your skin against sun damage!

3. After-shower lotion

Just like any other body oil, coconut oil can be used to hydrate your skin after you shower! Just warm up a bit in your hands and spread it over your skin for a natural glow (plus it smells hella nice).

4. De-tangler

I have really straight, thick hair that gets VERY tangled VERY fast, and I have always struggled to find a de-tangler that I liked. After using coconut oil for practically everything else, I decided to use it on my hair. OH MY GOSH I wish I'd thought of it sooner! Tips: use a really really small amount (I'm talking around the size of a quarter) and make sure to use it when your hair is still wet from the shower!

5. Cuticle oil

Smooth a bit of coconut oil onto your nail beds to soften cuticles and give nails a healthy shine! Because who doesn't want pretty fingers? (Plus, I think it makes your nails grow faster, but that's just my opinion).

Another reason to try coconut oil- it's relatively cheap! Why drop hella cash when you can pick up a jar for ~$10 at any grocery store? (I use the Trader Joe's brand because it's organic but I'm sure any other brand would work fine too).
