Winter fashion at UNC

We all have those days — we just had 4 of them consecutively — where you literally do nothing else but lie in bed for four to 24 hours at a time, only moving your hand as far as the trackpad to select “Continue Watching” on Netflix. Bless up.

Alas, those days (at least for this week) are slowly melting away, and it’s time to start wearing real clothes again.

If you’re feeling a little like the Grinch getting ready for class, don’t worry. This guide is geared to keep you trendy and toasty on your walk to class, and provides some chill alternatives to the more pricey styles.

Panther’s gear: Everyone’s going to be high on team spirit for a while since our very own Carolina Panthers are going to the Super Bowl this year. Join the fun and sport your favorite Panthers jersey or NFL gear. Yay sports!

College budget alternative: Wear one of the many cat shirts/accessories that I know you proudly own. (Panthers are cats, right?) Clear eyes, full hearts — can’t lose with this statement!

Blanket scarf: You know that feel when you want to just wrap up in a blanket all day, but you actually have places to go? This accessory makes it socially acceptable to bury your body in a pile of fabric and still show your face in public. Genius.

College budget alternative: Go ahead and bring your blanket to class. This is college. No one can judge you. In fact, they will probably envy you.

Bean boots: If you haven’t heard, UNC got a new student uniform over winter break, and it’s literally just a pair of L.L. Bean Boots. No longer does your casual rain gear satisfy the necessity of dry feet while walking through the slushy mess that is campus right now, it’s #DuckBootsorDie.

College budget alternative: Put some of those extra beans from the dining hall to good use! DIY some literal bean boots by slapping some in the shoes you currently own, and they’ll act like a bad off-brand hand warmer. Stylin!

Down coat: Looking like a marshmallow has never been easier with this winter staple. Wear it over a simple shirt or an oversized sweater — no one will be able to tell the difference.

College budget alternative: Wrap up in your duvet cover or comforter for the day. The feather count is eerily similar.

Flannel: The classic wardrobe piece that never goes out of style. Pair this with honestly everything and you’ll begin morphing into the lumberjack you always knew you were.

College budget alternative: Honestly, if you don’t have one, how are you in college?

Stay warm, fam!
