(Tyra Banks voice) Learn something from this.

Posting quotes in random places can really improve someone's day. For some people, the preferred medium is a Chapel Hill Transit bus. For me, it was the door of my first-year dorm in Craige.

My $12 whiteboard that a Target employee convinced me I needed hosted everything from Tim Gunn to Tyra Banks — which is actually a very small spectrum in retrospect. But I'd like to think writing the entire Tiffany rant on my door might've helped out a stressed suitemate at one point or another.

So go forth and be inspired for Wednesday, readers. We're still rooting for you.

QUICK HITS

  • A First Amendment Day panel dissected the legality and ethics of public universities displaying Confederate symbols on college campuses yesterday. TL;DR it's legal, but people will hate it.
  • As part of National Hispanic Heritage Month, student groups hosted an event providing condoms and information about disproportionate HIV rates in the Latino/a community.
  • Some people worry the possibility of privatizing Student Stores threatens what makes Bull's Head Bookshop so special.
  • Breadmen's is not going to be permanently closed — in two or three years, it will take a Hilary Duff-style hiatus as the restaurant figures out its personal life (read: It might move locations.).

IN CAMPUS LIFE

The few. The proud. The people who make it onto Our Campus Story. Some students get really competitive about getting on the college campus feature, which is basically a Snapchat story for everyone who's been at UNC in the past 24 hours. One professor who made it on the story sent his entire class an email, subject line: "WE DID IT!!!" It's the little things.

IN FEEL-GOOD PUBLIC TRANSIT

A bus driver on the J route has become known for posting inspiring/really weird quotes on his bus. From that cliche Walt Disney quote about the mouse to some pearls of wisdom from Woody Allen, the sayings David Deming posts have been credited with brightening the pilgrimage to Carrboro for a lot of residents.

IN STATE NEWS

A North Carolina superior judge decided to postpone a ruling on voter ID laws in the state. In a move strikingly similar to what I'm doing with my term paper, Superior Judge Michael Morgan put the case on hold until sometime after the March primaries. A preliminary glance shows his reasoning is probably a little more valid than mine.

IN RELATABLE SPORTS PEOPLE

Marquise Williams knows the struggles of senior year, too. Whether you catch yourself looking into the future of an internship or the NFL draft, focusing on the here and now is scientifically, statistically and spiritually impossible at this point in the semester. But UNC's starting quarterback is sucking it up better than most of us and actually planning to improve his performance.

IN THE BLOGS

We found the most pretentious dish names from the Chapel Hill/Carrboro/Hillsborough Small Plate Crawl. If you're anything like me and manage your stress through dabbling in bougie consumerism, check out the most full-of-it names of the offered courses, which are supposedly all somewhere between $4 and $10.

We also crowdsourced your most embarrassing first-year memories. It's like when your friends go back and like your statuses from 2007 — except it's The Daily Tar Heel doing it to an audience of like 20,000 internet strangers. Personal fave: “Not cheating on all LFIT quizzes.”
