Coining and unsuccessfully trademarking a millennial proverb

If you haven't figured it out by now, I have a Chipotle problem. I have so much of a problem that reading news articles about the E. coli outbreaks makes me hungry for Chipotle. My claim to fame in the office is that I once made it to Chipotle and back in six minutes. Literally. That's what I'm known for.

Today marked the first time this semester that I returned home to 301 W. Franklin St. And, thanks to one of our bloggers, now you know: If you've ever wanted to buy as many Chipotle burritos as I have since I started working for The Daily Tar Heel, you just have to win the Powerball lottery.

That's 230,769,230 burritos.

QUICK HITS

  • You have just under a month until He's Not loses its alcohol permit for a minimum of 21 days.
  • UNC professor Brian Southwell hosts a 30-minute radio show exploring important topics in social science research.
  • The Carrboro Police Department is stepping up measures to combat racial inequality, including body cams for police and written consent to search vehicles.
  • UNC graduate Jason Perlmutter left his job in a lab to pursue a career with a record label and recording company.

IN COFFEE NEWS

Carolina Dining Services is welcoming a new local coffee supplier. They'll be in the Pit today to share with everyone three of my favorite things: awareness of fair trade practices, free T-shirts and coffee. Not necessarily in that order.

IN STATE NEWS

North Carolina now has more board-certified teachers than any other state that does board certifications. For a public school teacher in North Carolina, however, the median salary is still approximately $3 an hour, a handful of "great work!" stickers and a $25 gift card to Chili's.

IN IMPRESSIVE STUDENT NEWS

A UNC Ph.D. student made the Forbes' 30 Under 30 list for health care. Mugdha Gokhale's work in pharmacoepidemiology, or examining how drugs affect different aspects of patient health, earned her the recognition from the national publication. Not dissimilar, enrolling in Journalism 101 my first semester earned me recognition from esteemed anonymous Twitter account "@UNC_Crushes."

IN FUNDRAISING

N.C. State is calling upon 12 schools and a military base for a very important thing this weekend: A League of Legends and Super Smash Bros competition. It's going to be the largest collegiate eSports competition ever held in the Carolinas, aside from those held in first-year dorms during every Week of Welcome ever.

IN THE BLOGS

If this semester is already making you, too, want to watch Netflix for the next 15 million years, win the Powerball lottery thing. One of our staffers, Will Schoeffler, recently took one for the team and braved the cold, desolate world we know as math to write you this blog: 10 things you could buy after winning the Powerball jackpot. Among other things learned today, a year of Netflix is cheaper than a day of Disney World. Feels like a millennial proverb.
