I trained for months for the third grade spelling bee.
I had to defeat the 21 other kids in my grade to be able to make it to regionals, including the ones whose parents gave them money for getting good grades. But I out-nerded the nerds and I won.
My victory lap ended at regionals where I came in second-to-last place. I misspelled "juvenile." I spelled it "j-u-v-e-v-e-v-e-uhhhh" because I got nervous.
Usually after a devastating loss like that you learn something. It builds character and closes a door so you can find another to open. But all I got was 45 more minutes of watching my peers spell obvious words like "cantilever" incorrectly.
David Marsh and Kathryn Walker lost, too. They lost the student body presidential election last year to my dad, Houston Summers. But they actually learned stuff from it and they're doing pretty well.

At Bare Theatre, women have a fair shot in an audition for a role that's typically played by a man. Their all-female production of “Titus Andronicus” is facing backlash that they didn't expect, but that's not stopping them from producing the simple, nontraditional and spontaneous stuff to which they are dedicated.

IN OUR OPINION
Resident sweetheart and assistant opinion editor Tyler Fleming acknowledges that he hecked up a lot this semester. It's hard to be an editor here and have every little spelling error ripped apart in a very ~j-u-v-e-v-e-v-e-uhhhh~ way, but that's the job. It's hard to think that in one week we will all do the jobs we have been doing all year for the last time and never do them again. :'(
