DTH at a Glance: This is what dreeeams are made of

I’m not the type to cry during movies. My favorite character dies — nothing. The hero saves the universe from sure destruction — nope. Even “Marley and Me” didn’t do a darn thing for me.

However, there is one beautifully orchestrated moment that gets to me every single time: when Hilary Duff sings “What Dreams Are Made Of” at the end of “The Lizzie McGuire Movie.”

For whatever reason, the pure joy I experience in that moment simply cannot be contained. I religiously burst into tears every time I sing along and pretend that I, too, just rocketed to Italian superstardom and told off that fake, Paolo Valisari.

Plus, Lizzie and Gordo finally kiss at the end, and I really don’t think it gets much better than that.

QUICK HITS

  • After years of separation, the Sharp brothers — one the executive chef at the Carolina Inn, the other a master of bluegrass banjo — have found their way back to Chapel Hill.
  • SNL took a hilarious, heartbreaking and hopeful turn this weekend, sending their condolences to the losses of Hillary Clinton and late “Hallelujah” singer Leonard Cohen.
  • Despite the passage of House Bill 2, many places on Franklin Street have continued to allow people of any gender identity to use whatever bathroom they choose.

IN THE MORNING AFTER

As we continue to wait for gubernatorial election results to roll in, classrooms at UNC are taking the time discuss the outcome of Tuesday’s presidential election. The days following Donald Trump’s victory have been difficult for many students, leading some to send their professors messages seeking advice on how to navigate life in America during the next four years. In response, professors are opening dialogues on what life in the United States will mean under the new president-elect.

IN TAKING A STAND

In response to both police brutality and Donald Trump's presidential victory, protesters took to the streets of Chapel Hill on Friday night. Students from schools across North Carolina gathered in silence on Franklin Street and in the Pit, wearing tape over their mouths and kneeling on the ground with their hands behind their backs. Not a word was spoken until the end of the demonstration, when students chanted in unison: “We must love and support one another. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”

IN GETTING BUCK WILD

Oh, deer. A doe ran through the window and down the stairs of Bowman Gray Memorial Pool yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred Sunday around 2 p.m., after which officials quickly corralled the animal into the locker rooms and sedated it until animal control could take it away. The doe was returned to safety, and the swim club promptly canceled practice.

IN BEING DADDY

Fact: Dad hats are hot. Although baseball season is over, dad hats — solid-color caps with funny logos or sayings on the front — have taken the world by storm after gaining popularity through social media. I feel like this is another one of those things that people start liking ironically and then end up actually liking. But also, my hair looks good about once a year anyway, so I’ll take any excuse I can to cover a bad hair day with “killer street-style.”
