DTH at a Glance: Un-bee-lievable

We at the DTH are an unbiased news source. We pride ourselves on delivering news that aims to treat all different points of view and opinions with fairness. But there is one thing this week — one topic of utmost importance — on which I must share my stance:

Burn "Bee Movie." Burn every single copy.

Barry the Bee has taken over my life. I cannot — nay, will not — continue to tolerate watching, powerless, as that sad meme of an insect crawls down my Twitter timeline, tainting my internet time and tormenting my very soul. For too long, he has been in power. But no longer — the fight against "Bee Movie" is here, and it only grows stronger every day. And so, I will say this one time and one time only:

Bee prepared.

— Tiana

QUICK HITS

  • Basketball player Kenny Williams killed the game on Saturday during North Carolina’s 95-50 win over Radford, shooting 14 of UNC’s first 18 points in less than five minutes. Score.
  • UNC football is off to El Paso, Texas to face Stanford University in the Hyundai Sun Bowl this Friday. Good luck, Heels!
  • La Res will reopen in the new year after sustaining smoke and fire damage in a kitchen fire that closed its doors back in June.
  • Take this quiz to find out what Christmas movie character you are. Given the state of my looks and personality during finals week, I can soundly say I am the Grinch.

IN MO’ MONEY, MO’ PROBLEMS

UNC students will have the opportunity to vote for or against an annual increase of $10 in student fees per student this Tuesday. After working with all the different groups that receive a part of the student organization fee, student body treasurer Harry Edwards believes it is a necessary change. And considering that over 200 student groups requested additional funding this year, several other students seem to think it’s a smart move, too.

IN ACHING FOR ACRES

The American Legion’s land could soon belong to the town. Tonight, the Town Council of Chapel Hill will hear opinions from the public and decide whether or not to purchase the roughly 35-acre tract for $7.9 million. The town had the opportunity to buy the land once before and said “No, thanks.” But after hearing Woodfield Investments’ concept plan for the property, Chapel Hill will now get a second chance to purchase and shape its own destiny for the land.

IN FIGHTING BACK

The Ku Klux Klan held a parade in North Carolina to celebrate Donald Trump’s victory. Students and other groups responded with counter-protests, insisting they would not be intimidated. Apparently, the promise of counter-protests inspired the KKK to plan more intensely for the march, but students like Owen Webster and Sydney Grice refuse to be intimidated.

IN BEE-LIEVING IN A CAUSE

Honey, we need to have a talk. Are you pro-Bee Movie, or anti-Bee Movie? Either way, there’s a cause for you. UNC students Annie Simpson and George Gildehaus — of the "Bee Movie"-destroyers and the resistance, respectively — quickly gained fame this weekend after creating Facebook events surrounding the 2007 animated film starring Jerry Seinfeld. As un-bee-lievable as it may seem, people are sharing strong opinions on the environmental and cultural importance of the movie — or otherwise, they’re talking about how a movie about a bee falling in love with a human woman could have possibly been such a success.
