DTH at a Glance: Police, polling places and pregnancy

It’s your second-to-last day of Thursday classes, UNC! The week is almost at a close, and so is this semester. Hang in there, and here’s your morning news:

QUICK HITS

  • “They want to see a midwife because she’s looking at the whole picture.” This isn’t your ancestor’s mythical practice — midwifery is a modern discipline, delivering 15 percent of births at UNC hospitals.
  • “This seemed like the quintessential senior activity.” Members of the Class of 2018 climbed to the top of the Bell Tower on Wednesday and inscribed their names on the bricks within it.
  • As fair and equal treatment by police has become a nationwide issue, the Carrboro police department has tracked bias in their policing. Here’s what they found

STUDENT AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT

  • “She changed the culture, quite literally changed the culture and took out the elitist mindset that student government had.” With the spring semester coming to a close, Elizabeth Adkins looks back on her year as student body president.
  • Being called into honor court sucks, but at least the process is getting shorter. Over the past year, the Undergraduate Honor System has increased its efficiency by 25 percent
  • Early voting for Orange County primary election begins this Saturday. Here’s where and how you can get to the polls.
