DTH at a Glance: Tippy Toe

Good Morning and Happy Thursday!

I walk on my toes. If you catch me barefoot when I'm not paying attention, I have a habit of walking on my tiptoes just as often as I walk on my flat feet.

Apparently this comes from being a child and trying out different foot positions when I learned how to walk. I think it was because I just always wanted to be taller. Either way, I'm now 5'3.5" and have an odd walking habit.

According to Ginger Young of the Babies Book Class, 80 percent of brain development happens in the first three years of life. No wonder the tip toes stuck. Get ready for the cutest story you'll read today. Book Harvest's Book Babies program has spent their first years of life learning way better stuff than I apparently did, and are now graduating to kindergarten.

The Rundown

  • A car crash in Carrboro on Tuesday took the life of an 86-year-old Chapel Hill resident. This recent accident is making Carrboro re-evaluate that intersection and traffic safety.
  • Say hello to the 56 new members of UNC's Board of Visitors. Basically, this is a super team of volunteer alumni, and apparently they host networking dinners, so I can get behind it.
  • The time has come. UNC baseball is facing it's toughest opponent yet in the first game of the College World Series: Oregon State University. According to the team, they are living in the moment.

The Wayback Machine

It's time for a Coed roundup. Back in the good ol' days, female college students were nicknamed "coeds." This name evidently stuck, as there were soon official Coed advisers, coordinators and assistants. Here are some classic DTH headlines from the 1950s and 1960s featuring coeds.

Well, at least Dook is good for something. (Nice rivalry spelling there, retro DTH. Well done)

Somehow, I think I will sleep at night.

This one is legit cool. Good on you, Margaret.

Some may argue this is still true.

Plan Your Weekend

Oh boy, its finally almost the weekend again! Boy, the days feel like weeks and the weeks feel like days. Am I right, folks? Here's our list of events and things to do around the Chapel Hill/Durham area for when the days are feeling a bit too long.

"A signal, right, erm, OK, er OK, the signal is, I'll call out 'Tippy toe!'"
