DTH at a Glance: Zombie Apocalypse

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday!

My father is a big fan of zombie movies. The consequence of this hobby is that he has mentally and somewhat physically prepared for a zombie apocalypse.

There is always tons of water in our basement in case of an emergency attack and there are multiple contingency plans depending on the type of zombie. Fast like in World War Z? Head to the basement. Slow and confused like The Walking Dead? Upstairs we go.

While it is mostly in good fun, a part of me is glad my family is so well prepared in case of this emergency. Flash flood warnings are cropping up for this week, and we want to make sure you are prepared. Here are some tips and information about how to stay safe and dry.

Dick Spangler stands in his workshop in Charlotte where he restores antique grandfather clocks.

The Rundown

  • Former UNC-system President C.D. Spangler died at age 86 on Monday. He was a beloved Chapel Hill figure and a friend to the DTH. Follow his story with DTH clippings through the years.
  • Two brothers were involved in a stabbing in Chapel Hill. The police have charged one of the brothers with first-degree murder. This story is developing and the investigation is ongoing.
  • Orange County is taking steps to educate the community on how to care for those with dementia. Expert caretakers will be hosting a two-part series of the stages and debunking misconceptions.

Tunesday

It's our last playlist of the summer. We have got 23 songs that ruled the airwaves all summer long and are perfect for celebrating the last week of class. Thanks for letting us jazz up your Tuesdays with our tunes and we hope you finish this week strong.
