DTH at a Glance: Hey ma, watch this

I was in band for seven years.

No, like, really in band. Flute lessons, wind ensembles, marching band. I was drum major of the marching band, for two years. My poor parents went to every recital, concert, competition and game. They listened to Hot Cross Buns until the cows came home. They sat and pretended they were happy to listen to me play the chromatic scale over and over and over. They watched me practice conducting silently as if they understood what I was doing.

I'm forever grateful to them for all of those things, but I think they should be grateful that I quit band when I went to college.

If I had been cooler, I would've started an electronic flute duo ... maybe called, Flutronix? That's what Nathalie Joachim and Allison Loggins did. The DTH spoke with them about their upcoming performance at Moeser Auditorium.

Grab your UNC gear

Gearing up for Saturday's game? UNC will play against Pitt at 12:20 p.m. After missing last week's game due to Hurricane Florence, the team's unexpected bye week might give them a leg up to turn things around.

The Ackland Art Museum is ringing in its 60th birthday by introducing a new exhibit — each piece of art was gifted to the museum. Remind me to call my family and tell them what I want for my birthday.

In the wake of Silent Sam coming down, Student Body President Savannah Putnam was asked to leave a discussion that took place between the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors on Aug. 28, despite her status as a voting ex-officio member for the BOT.

Next week is Banned Books Week, and the Chapel Hill Public Library will be holding events to commemorate the 1982 Supreme Court decision which stated that public schools don't have the authority to ban books solely based on content. Read here to see how they're celebrating.

Carrboro is moving ahead with its 203 Project, which will turn a downtown parking lot into a multi-use community center. The Town of Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department, the ArtsCenter and the Orange County Public Library are all helping fund the endeavor.

Things to do

Gear up for midterms. This week, assistant opinion editor Mishah Maruf has you covered with a list of study jams from her Office DJ playlist.
