Gene Chizik

After being fired at Auburn in 2012, Gene Chizik took a two-year hiatus from coaching. It marked the first time in his coaching career that he had been fired. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. 

“It probably was the best, worst thing that ever happened to us as a family, those two years,” said Gene's wife Joanna Chizik.

Landon Turner

In July of 2010, Landon Turner verbally committed to play football at North Carolina.  Just one week later, the NCAA launched its investigation into the program.  

But rather than de-commit, Turner kept his word. He was going to be a Tar Heel.  

“He was very adamant,” said Dawn Womack, Turner’s mother. “He said, ‘Let the chips fall where they may. Carolina is my home, and I made a commitment. I’m a man of my word, and I’m going.’”

Quinshad Davis

When North Carolina wide receiver Quinshad Davis was at Gaffney High School in South Carolina, his team faced fourth-and-eight in a tight game in the fourth quarter. Davis told his coaches, "Throw this route, and I promise I'll catch it."  

He delivered on his promise. Now, after coming back from a broken leg, Davis has regained that confidence.

Junior Gnonkonde

Seven years ago, Junior Gnonkonde came to the United States from the Ivory Coast to play in a basketball tournament. Now, the junior is primed to start at defensive end for the North Carolina football team this season.
