Long live the Tim Beckman era

After hiding in plain sight for all of training camp, Tim Beckman emerged on Wednesday as a volunteer assistant for the North Carolina football team. Not unlike Chancellor Carol Folt, I was shocked to hear the news.

But it didn't last long.

Given the allegations of player mistreatment in his time at Illinois, the immediate negative backlash to Beckman's hiring was no surprise. But after his sudden resignation on Thursday night, I feel somehow incomplete — like I never got to say a proper goodbye to Mr. Beckman.

So Tim, thank you for the memories. What a wild 48 hours.
