Apply to lead the Eve Carson Scholarship

The group is looking for a new director to manage its junior scholarship program. The scholarship was established in 2008 in memory of slain Student Body President Eve Carson. It provides financial support for a student’s senior year and funds a summer experience. Applications are due Wednesday at 5 p.m. E-mail current director Katherine Novinski (novinski AT email.unc.edu) for more information. From Ann Mills Lassiter, the group’s spokeswoman, here’s what the the group is looking for in the next director:

What are the responsibilities of the Director?
The Director of the Scholarship leads both the Executive Committee as well as the Selection Committee. Responsibilities of the Director include leading the Executive Committee in fundraising for the future of the scholarship, in attracting a unique and qualified group of applicants, and in disseminating information about the progress of the scholarship to media outlets and donors. The Director must work closely with the Office of Development, the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid, and the Division of Student Affairs to coordinate the logistics of the Scholarship. The Director is responsible for managing the selection process and leading the Selection Committee in choosing the 2012-2013 Eve Carson Scholars, and must work with the 2012-2013 Eve Carson Scholars to approve their Summer Experiences.

What are the necessary qualities of the Director?
The Director must be a dedicated individual with strong character and a commitment to integrity in order to ensure the legitimacy and longevity of the Scholarship. It is necessary that the Director have both strong communication and management skills. Students should strongly consider not applying if they have significant time commitments in other organizations.
