Recipe of the week: Chocolate Peanut Butter Acorns

Buy Photos

While the weatherman says it’s been fall for more than two weeks now, we’re still feeling the heat here in Chapel Hill. But here’s a DIY treat that will put you in the mood for fall.

I found this week’s recipe for chocolate peanut butter acorns while cruising Pinterest. It’s cute and totally possible for dorm-dwellers to make these just the way they are, so get ready to run on over to Walgreens. The recipe can be found here.

You’ll need:

Hersey’s Kisses
Mini Chocolate Chips
Nutter Butter Bites

The only difference you’ll see between my results and the original recipe is the size of the Nutter Butter cookies. Walgreens just had regular-sized Nutter Butter Cookies, so we have over-sized acorns. No big deal, more to eat for us.

I also couldn’t find chocolate chips, so I purchased chocolate chip granola bars and took the chips from there. Trust me, it’s not as complicated as you think, and you can never have too many granola bars, right? But, if you have the opportunity to get mini chocolate chips somewhere, go for it.

You can also experiment with different types of Hershey’s Kisses since there are many varieties available, such as almond, caramel, and cookies and cream.

Maybe you’re asking yourself: “How many of each of these things do I need?” Well, you need one kiss, chocolate chip and bite for each acorn, so whether it’s just for you and your roommate (like how it was for me) or you’re going to a fall party, plan accordingly.

The recipe says to melt the mini chocolate chips in the microwave and use them as glue. I put the chocolate chips and the kisses in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, and they get melted just enough.

Then you stick the mini chips on one side of the cookie and the kiss on the other side. If you need a little extra chocolate glue, you can just dip it in the melted chocolate left on the plate.

Make sure they stick, and let those acorns cool!

It doesn’t get any easier (or more adorable) than this! You can create these treats without leaving your dorm room — and eat them there, too — but I recommend sharing and showing them off.
