Places to stay away from while on your Carolina Way

When The Daily Tar Heel challenged students today to come up with the most obnoxious places on campus, they were not shy to share what places bothered them the most. “It smells like despair and broken dreams,” said freshman business major Brian Schmid when asked to describe his least favorite place on campus – Phillips Hall.
After four weeks since the start of the fall semester, students were able to identify a handful of popular places that they try to avoid.

Intersections At peak traffic hours, people, bikes, cars, and motorcycles inundate the crosswalks and roads leading to north campus. Even with the help of the cross walk lights and crossing guards, it is no surprise that many students cited intersections as annoying spots on campus.
“I hate the road in front of Avery,” said sophmore Eunice Yeh. “Cars zoom by and don’t stop at all.”
Other students identified similar problems with the intersections.
“The South Road intersection is so crowded,” said junior Nina Kaur, a psychology major. “People are on their bikes, and I’m trying to dodge them. People don’t even follow safety regulations.”

Study Places
Finding a quiet place to study on a campus with nearly 30,000 students can be a challenge. Students complained about the inability to get work done due to lack of space and quiet areas.
“I don’t like the UL,” said senior Nina Vaidya. “I’d rather be at Davis.”
Some athletes disliked studying in Loudermilk, where athletes are required to study.
“Sometimes you feel stuck there,” said freshman Leolamer Ways.

The Pit
During the weekdays, the Pit is home to students relaxing in between classes, organizations recruiting members or impromptu performances. While the activities in the Pit are amusing to some, they might bother others.
“I hate the Pit around 3 o’clock when they have all those events,” said freshman Spencer Lewis, “Everyone’s trying to get you to join an organization or club.”
Upperclassmen can attest to the fact that the Pit become especially busy during special events.
“I avoid the Pit during government elections,” Lewis said.

“It’s a nice campus. There’s not a lot I’d avoid,” said junior Ravi Patel.
