UNC to face UNC Charlotte in national title match

As the top-seeded North Carolina men’s soccer team prepares to face UNC Charlotte tomorrow in the College Cup finals, there’s little on the players’ minds but performance.

UNC matched up against the 49ers for an exhibition game earlier this season, but it was called because of rain about midway through the second half with the Tar Heels leading 2-1. And though UNC Charlotte comes in as the underdog, it’s not a team to be underestimated.

In the 49ers’ last three matches, they have upset Akron — the defending national champion — third-seeded Connecticut and, on Friday, the second-seeded Creighton.

“I don’t look at the seedings,” UNC coach Carlos Somoano said. “The team that performs better tomorrow will stand a good chance of winning the game.”

The all-North Carolina national championship is set to kickoff at 4 p.m. EST tomorrow at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
