UNC men's tennis wins first match of doubleheader

In the first match of its doubleheader on Sunday, the North Carolina men’s tennis team made quick work of University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.

The Tar Heels came away with a win in which they didn’t drop a point, despite a late rally by the Mocs, for the third time in as many matches.

UNC started off the match by sweeping all three doubles matches, taking the first 8-3 and the second and third 8-5.

That domination continued into all six of the singles matches.

The Tar Heels got individual victories from Nelson Vick, who made quick work of his opponent with a 6-1, 6-0 win, Oystein Steiro, 6-4, 6-4, and William Parker, 6-1, 6-4, to clinch the four points needed to win the match.

UNC then continued the sweep with a 6-2, 7-5 win from Stuart DePaolo, along with wins from Maik Ulrich and Brett Clark who both managed to pull out close tie-break wins after dropping their second sets.

Despite that late slowdown, though, the Tar Heels secured a dominant 7-0 win against University of Tennessee-Chattanooga to start the day.

UNC will look to carry the momentum of that win into its next match against North Carolina Central to finish the day.
