After beating Boston College twice during the regular season — both times by a 28-point margin — North Carolina looks like it’ll be happy to escape the ACC Tournament’s quarterfinal round with a win of any sort.
No. 3 UNC took a slim 25-23 lead at halftime of its matchup against 11th-seeded Boston College in Greensboro Coliseum. Tierra Ruffin-Pratt hit her second shot of the half with fewer than 10 seconds remaining, a pull-up jumper from 15 feet.
Despite holding a formidable size advantage compared to the Eagles, North Carolina was outrebounded 10-6 on the offensive glass and 27-25 overall. Boston College looked half a step sharper than UNC when chasing down loose balls and more than held its own against Waltiea Rolle and Xylina McDaniel.
Turnovers and missed shots plagued both teams. UNC and Boston College gave the ball away twelve times each.
The Tar Heels hit just 31 percent of their shots, but the Eagles outdid even that mark with a remarkably poor 20.6 clip from the field. Boston College hit more shots from outside the arc — five — than from inside it — two.
Kerri Shields equaled her four-for-eight performance against Virginia last night with four 3-pointers in the first half of Friday evening’s game.
Waltiea Rolle and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt both scored eight points for the Tar Heels.
