UNC baseball series finale against N.C. State rained out

RALEIGH — Sunday night’s series finale between the No. 1 North Carolina baseball team and No. 13 N.C. State has been rained out. The game will not be made up.

The Tar Heels (41-4, 19-3 ACC) and the Wolfpack (34-11, 15-8 ACC) split the series, with UNC winning Friday’s series opener 7-1 and N.C. State winning 7-3 on Saturday.

It was the first weekend series North Carolina did not win this season.

Kent Emanuel shut out the Wolfpack for eight innings on Friday, striking out nine. Colin Moran hit a three-run homer in the first inning to spearhead the Tar Heels to an easy win.

But Carlos Rodon dominated North Carolina on Saturday, striking out 10 in 6.2 innings of work, including the first seven right-handed hitters he faced. Rodon threw 128 pitches in a workmanlike effort. Cody Stubbs hit a three-run homer as soon as Rodon left the game, but the Tar Heels couldn’t muster much else on offense.

UNC next plays on Wednesday in Chapel Hill, where the Tar Heels will host The Citadel at 6 p.m.
