Halftime: UNC, UCLA women's soccer scoreless

DURHAM — After one half of play at Duke’s Koskinen Stadium, the North Carolina women’s soccer team is tied 0-0 with UCLA.

An attacking force led by senior Crystal Dunn helped the Tar Heels produce 13 shots in the first half.

But UCLA keeper Katelyn Rowland came to Durham prepared to stifle the UNC offense.

By making five saves and coming down with numerous corner kicks, Rowland held UNC scoreless in the first half.

On the other end of the pitch, the Tar Heel defense kept the Bruins under control, giving up just two shots and making goalkeeper Anna Sieloff’s job that much easier.

Forward Alexa Newfield leads the game with four shots — twice as many as the Bruins team — and two on goal.

The Tar Heels best goal scoring opportunity came about halfway through the half. Dunn created separation from her defender in the middle of the field around 20 yards out and rifled a shot to the top right 90.

Rowland was up for the challenge, though. With a big step and dive toward the corner post, she punched the ball away from the netting, where it would have inevitably ended up.
