Women's basketball leads Coastal Carolina at the half

The North Carolina women’s basketball team leads Coastal Carolina 46-24 after the first half.

The Tar Heels’ strong offensive performance stemmed from freshman guard Diamond DeShields who scored 16 points and had two assists.

Fellow freshman Jessica Washington also left an offensive impression, sinking a deep three-pointer with seconds left in the half.

UNC found strength in its youth, like ACC Rookie of the Week Allisha Gray, and standout forward Stephanie Mavunga. At the half, underclassmen accounted for all of UNC’s points.

Not only can the underclassmen shoot, they can spread the ball around. Five of the seven active underclassmen registered at least one assist of UNC’s 13 total in the first half. The Chanticleers had five assists total.

North Carolina has room to improve on the boards. UNC has two fewer rebounds than CCU and Coastal Carolina has scored six points off of their ten offensive rebounds.
