Miami leads No. 6 UNC 42-36 at halftime

The No. 6 North Carolina women’s basketball team trailed Miami by as much as 19 points in the first half, yet the Tar Heels closed the gap to a mere six points by the end of the period, closing the half down 42-36.

The Hurricanes couldn’t miss early in the half, shooting 72 percent through the first 10 minutes, but the heat somewhat died off and Miami finished the half at 58 percent while shooting 4-8 from the three-point arc.

No UNC player has reached double digits scoring thus far. Freshman Allisha Gray leads the Tar Heels with nine points in the half and three other players have scored five points or more.

Gray injured her right shooting wrist late in the half after being fouled hard on a fast break layup attempt, but returned to the game with tape on the wrist.

UNC’s leading scorer, Diamond DeShields has shot just 2-9 for five points. The Tar Heels are also 2-9 from three-point range.

North Carolina finished the half on an 8-0 run and brings that momentum into the second half.
