No. 2 UNC men's lacrosse leads No. 11 Notre Dame 7-3 at halftime

In the first half of the No. 2 North Carolina men’s lacrosse team’s matchup with No. 11 Notre Dame, it was nothing but UNC, which cruised to a 7-3 lead heading into the locker room.

After about four minutes of scoreless play to start the game, junior midfielder Chad Tutton scored to give UNC a 1-0 lead that the Tar Heels (3-0, 0-0 ACC) would not relinquish for the rest of the half.

The Fighting Irish (2-0, 0-0) didn’t find the net until the 10th minute of the first quarter after both Jake Matthai, Pat Foster and Luke Goldstock both scored for UNC.

The Tar Heels added three more goals in the second quarter while Notre Dame added two.

UNC’s leader in points and goals on the season Joey Sankey didn’t find the net in the first half and took just one shot. Foster leads the Tar Heels with two goals on two shots.

This afternoon’s game marks the first for Notre Dame as a member of the ACC. Last year’s meeting between the two teams ended in a 10-9 triple-overtime victory for Notre Dame.
