UNC locker room damage during celebration at Duke will cost the University

Following the North Carolina football team's 45-20 victory over Duke on Thursday, UNC players took to the locker room to paint the Victory Bell Carolina Blue for the first time since the 2011-12 season. The Victory Bell, awarded annually to the winner of the Duke-UNC football game, had resided in Durham for the past two years.

But the team's celebration got out of control quickly.

Several UNC players caused damage to the visitor's locker room, including spray painting the walls and carpet, according to The Durham Herald-Sun. The Durham Herald-Sun reported that fixing the damages will likely cost UNC more than $25,000.

"Obviously the celebration got out of hand," said Coach Larry Fedora at his press conference Monday. "I wish it wouldn’t have, but it did."

Fedora said he called Duke Coach David Cutcliffe to apologize after he found out about the incident, and the Durham Herald-Sun reported that UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham also called Duke Athletic Director Kevin White. Senior bandit Norkeithus Otis admitted at Monday's press conference the celebration was taken a little too far.

"A bunch of the guys were a little excited, some things went down," Otis said. "I don’t really know."
