UNC leads Pittsburgh 39-35 at halftime in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The top-seeded North Carolina men's basketball team closed the first half of today's ACC Tournament quarterfinal game on a 13-2 run to take a 39-35 lead over the Panthers into halftime.

Here are two things to note from the first half at the Verizon Center.

Berry good

The Tar Heels were led offensively in the first half by sophomore Joel Berry, who led all scorers with 13 points and went 6-for-6 from the field.

The UNC guard has aggressively attacked the basket, and his final layup of the first half — which came off a steal — concluded the team's 13-2 run.

An Artis at work

The Panthers jumped out to an 8-0 lead thanks to the strong offensive play of junior forward Jamel Artis. He scored the first eight points of the game for Pittsburgh and finished the first half with a team-best 12 points.

Artis went 4-of-7 from the field in the first half, making two of his three 3-pointers.
