Miel Bon Bons leaves Carrboro

The biggest sweet-tooth can satisfy his craving with cakes, macaroons, and cupcakes from Miel Bon Bons. But Carrboro fans of confections will soon have to drive to Durham for a treat.

After being located in Carr Mill Mall for about five and a half years, Owner Bonnie Lau says the store is in need of more space.

Lau said she is excited about the opportunity to expand her product line. She will be able to hire more people, take more catering orders, and develop new products.

Lau is aiming to re-open in late summer or early fall.

For customers unable to make the trek to Durham, Miel Bon Bons will continue to ship orders.

“We have new products coming up like frozen desserts and we are working on a holiday seasonal menu as well,” said Lau.

“I am very gracious to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro location. We love our customers,” Lau said.

Miel Bon Bons’ new home will be at 2514 University Dr. in Durham.

Perch Studios Coworking opens in Carrboro

For people tired of constant distractions while working, Vinci Daro says her Perch Studios Coworking is the perfect space.

The space, which opened last week at 204 W. Main St. in Carrboro, offers users desk space, phone access and other office amenities.

“Coworking is basically sharing workspace with people who are otherwise working independently,” Daro said.

After discovering coworking at Carrboro Creative Coworking, which closed in 2011, Daro was inspired to create her own business.

The Triangle houses a few other coworking spaces such as Bull City Coworking and Mercury Studio in Durham and HUB Raleigh.

Fees for using the space range from half-day ‘try it’ sessions for $5 per session to owning your own desk with 24/7 access for $200 per month.

“It’s mainly a way of helping people get their work done so that they have more time in their life to do other things like spend time with their family, community, get involved in non-work projects,” said Daro.

Franklin Street Yoga moves to The Courtyard

Chapel Hill residents in search of their Zen will need to walk a little further west on Franklin Street to pay a visit to Franklin Street Yoga.

University Square, the business’ current home, is undergoing renovations. Instead of seeking a temporary location, owner Lori Burgwyn decided on a long-term move to The Courtyard.

After their new seven-year lease at 431 W. Franklin St., Suite 410 is up, Franklin Street Yoga may return to University Square, but Burgwyn is not sure of future plans.

“It was two spaces that we made into one so they gutted the current space and completely made a space for us,” said Burgwyn. “The square footage is 2,037 feet, so it’s a little bigger than what we have at University Square.”

Class will continue without any change in schedule. “We have classes here until 4:15 on Saturday and we have our first classes on Sunday at 9,” Burgwyn said.

“We don’t want to leave, but we certainly understand,” said Burgwyn. “We’re just looking forward to our new space.”
