Goats of Note: Botanimal

Retirement community Galloway Ridge at Fearrington is hosting the first ever Goat Parade to benefit the Robert and Pearl Seymour Center in Chapel Hill and the Chatham County Council on Aging.

Ten painted goats were presented to the community during Festifall Oct. 5. They will be placed around Orange County before being auctioned off Nov. 14.

This week, staff writer Wei Zhou visited University Florist and Gift Shop, which currently houses a goat called Botanimal.

Botanimal, also known as Botanical Animal, is located within the embrace of different kinds of flowers and plants at University Florist.

Artist Lauren Roberts said the goat has to do with passion.

“When you are passionate about something, it kind of becomes part of you,” she said.

Roberts said she participated in this project because she likes the idea of charity behind the goat exhibitions.

“I like the charity that this is going to, you know, anything for senior services, and I kind of have an idea when it came out, you know, that this is what I want to do,” she said.

She said when she painted the goat, many children and people stopped by because they really liked the flowers, especially the sunflower on the goat’s back.

UNC sophomore Matthew Wassel said he is impressed with the goat’s beauty, and he is curious about why the goat is there.

“It’s a very pretty goat,” he said.
