What makes you happiest?

Well ya know, a day like today where the weather is nice and people are happy to be outside, and going to a job that I love. That’s good enough for me.

Advice for college students?

You don’t have to figure it all out right now. What my mom told me right after I got out of college is that you make sure you can pay your bills, make sure you got health insurance, and the rest will take of itself.

Biggest disappointment?

My 21st birthday was the 2000 presidential election. I went to bed thinking one thing and woke up to a nation in utter confusion. I have been trying to recover from the trauma ever since.

What’s your favorite thing about Chapel Hill?

I like that it’s a tight-knit community. I like that people smile at you when you walk down the street and it seems like people aren’t necessarily trapped inside their own little bubble.

Current struggles?

Well I guess the biggest thing on my mind is that I am not totally sure where I will be living at the end of the summer. My girlfriend is applying to different grad schools and it is still indeterminate right now. It could be in a couple months that I am moving away from the community, which is, you know, good and bad. The start of a new adventure or chapter in my life or it could be that we end up not going anywhere.

When is the last time you tried something new?

I went to that really nice ramen place in Durham over the weekend, Dashi.
