El Centro Latino to close

Directors cite financial difficulties

El Centro Latino, the Carrboro-based Latino advocacy group and resource center, announced today that it has closed its doors, citing a decrease in donations and grants, as well as an increase in leadership turnover.

The organization will hold a meeting in January to decide its future.

The center officially opened in July 2000 as a "clearing house of information," according to then-Carrboro Alderman John Herrera.
