Walter Davis dies at 88

Walter Royal Davis, a North Carolina native and major donor to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has died at 88, the Associated Press reports

Doctor's work on AIDS brings reward, recognition Myron S. Cohen, a UNC doctor, won the prestigious O. Max Gardner award from the UNC Board of Governors for his work in advancing HIV research, treatment and prevention in countries around the world. He and his colleagues have built and sustained research and medical training projects in resource-poor countries such as Malawi, China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Russia, as well as the United States.
