Phone records strengthen suspicion of Blake

Former North Carolina associate football coach John Blake called friend and sports agent Gary Wichard 151 times between Nov. 5, 2009 and June 22, 2010. According to phone records from Blake’s university-issued cell phone, the coach communicated with Wichard for three or more minutes via the two men’s cell phones 70 times during that time.

Davis Library roof undergoes rebuild

About one week after reports of a cracking sound from a portion of the Davis Library roof, a mountain of scaffolding now stretches to the library’s eighth floor. The scaffolding, which was erected during the weekend, will be used as part of a potentially four-week long construction project that will temporarily close an eighth floor study lounge.

Student input encouraged in review of tuition process

The board of governors is realizing students have no easy way to speak up about tuition. As the UNC-system Board of Governors reviews tuition policy, they and members of a tuition task force said students need a clearly defined role in the decision process.

Housekeepers present Thorp with grievances

A crowd of about 40 housekeepers, students and local residents marched to South Building on Wednesday to present Chancellor Holden Thorp with a copy of their stated grievances regarding UNC’s treatment of housekeepers and workers on campus. The group outlined its concerns in a grievance report, explaining its opposition to the University’s Wage-Hour policy, which prohibits unauthorized rests by workers.

Chapel Hill school receives funds for daily fresh produce

Corben Simpson and other students at New Hope Elementary School are the first in the county to benefit from U.S. Department of Agriculture funds to participate in the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program, which began at the school this week.
