The Daily Tar Heel

Elected at 21

An N.C. State student was elected to public office at the tender age of 21. Good for her; that’s very impressive. Maybe she can help rally State’s morale after we shellack them in football.

Kleinschmidt

The ACLU honored Chapel Hill’s mayor with the Finlator Award last Thursday. It’s only fitting that one of America’s most liberal organizations bestowed an honor on Chapel Hill’s mayor.

Dance Marathon

Such a great cause was never publicized so spastically. We just recovered from pushy people asking us to register to vote. Now we have obnoxious people asking us to register “for the kids.“

Networking events

Berlin Wall stolen

Ronald Reagan must be spinning in his grave. Unknown villains — probably subversive Soviet (Carrboro?) spies — stole the College Republicans’ replica of the Berlin Wall. Oh well — it was going to be torn down anyway.

Alcoholism gene

A UNC research team has been studying the effects of a “tipsy gene.” The gene, which is present in 10 to 20 percent of the population, makes people drunk faster. What happened to the plain old labels, “lightweight” and “heavyweight?”
