The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

I decided to purchase “True Blue,” the bucket list created for the Class of 2011 to end our days at Carolina. I was rather saddened to see what made the list in relation to varsity athletics.

Whilst there were four items about Tar Heels athletics, two were explicitly dedicated to men’s basketball. The other two were general. This is uncalled for.

Now, I’ve lost my voice in the risers and laughed at the skits at Late Night. But Carolina is rich with more than men’s basketball.

Our women’s soccer team is the greatest dynasty in all college sports, boasting 21 national championships and an unprecedented 715-40-14 record in its 32 years of existence.

Our baseball team has reached Omaha for the prestigious College World Series in four of its last five years, and has included a national player of the year (Dustin Ackley) in this time. Many other teams, such as women’s basketball, lacrosse and men’s soccer, have also achieved success lately.

Not only have I enjoyed watching our men’s basketball team succeed (including bonfire jumping in ’09), but I’ve witnessed a field hockey national championship in College Park, our women’s basketball team go undefeated in the ACC, Alex White pitch a remarkable 1-hitter against Miami, and much more.

Whoever makes the next UNC bucket list, I implore you to include our many other talented teams that we are proud to boast at this great university.
