Kentucky tops UNC 76-69, ends Tar Heels' run in NCAA

NEWARK, N.J. – The Kentucky Wildcats won the East regional and ended the North Carolina men’s basketball season at the Elite Eight in Newark, N.J., 76-69.

Brandon Knight led all scores with 22 points for the Wildcats and four other Kentucky players scored in double digits. Tyler Zeller led the Tar Heels with 21 points and nine rebounds.

UNC trailed 30-38 at half time but fought back to bring the difference to just one point thanks in large part to 8 consecutive points by Harrison Barnes just around the four minute mark. Barnes finished the game with 18 points and six boards. Forward John Henson saw limited action because of three first half fouls and fouled out of the game in the final seconds with only four points.

Deandre Liggins put the game out of reach with a three pointer from the corner with :37 seconds left. Liggins would finish the game with 12 points.
