The UNC student accused of stealing confidential student records for 31 students from a University building made his first appearance in court today.
Garrett Haywood appeared before a judge at the Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough, where he received an Aug. 15 court date.
Haywood is charged with felony breaking and entering, misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods valued at $1.
He allegedly broke into the student judicial system office in Student and Academic Services Building North, taking the student conduct records.
University officials discovered the break-in at around 8 a.m. Monday and have been contacting the students whose records have been stolen, according to a UNC News release.
