Students express Silent Sam concerns at Board of Trustee's public talk

Nearly 30 community members directly addressed the University’s Board of Trustees concerning the presence of the Silent Sam statue on campus. Chairperson Haywood Cochrane opened the event for public speakers, disclosing that the Board intended to listen to speakers’ statements, but not offer responses.

Why are students protesting Wendy's?

Carolina Advocating for Gender Equity and Students United for Immigrant Equality co-hosted the “Boot the Braids” Wendy's protest on campus Monday. The protest stemmed from the fast food chain's refusal to join the Fair Food Program.

Campaign for Carolina begins historic fundraiser to improve arts, scholarships

UNC launched “For All Kind: the Campaign for Carolina” today with a kick off event in Polk Place. A fundraising campaign aiming to raise $4.25 billion by the end of 2022, Campaign for Carolina marks the largest campaign in the school’s history and the second largest among public universities in the country. Its goals are, among other things, to eliminate financial barriers to education and improve the arts at UNC.  Here’s how the fundraiser affects students.

Board of Trustees reviews state of UNC

The Board of Trustees met in full on Thursday, September 28, to discuss tension on campus, hear budget proposals and give the state of the University thus far. The meeting began remarks from the student body president and the chairperson, including a standing ovation for the existing provost and the introduction of the newly hired Bob Blouin.
