Newly renovated Boshamer Stadium is now a state-of-the-art facility and the home of UNC baseball. After two straight trips to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., plans for Boshamer’s renovation were implemented. In 2008, UNC played its home games Cary while the stadium was being rebuilt. The home of UNC baseball since 1972, the new Boshamer makes it one of the best baseball stadiums in the nation, including a large indoor batting cage and extensive training facilities underneath the stadium, as well as a memorabilia room showcasing North Carolina’s four straight trips to the CWS. The stadium seats 4,100 and cost $25 million.
At the midway point of renovations for Boshamer Stadium, things are starting to take shape.
Passers-by can see the outlines of the new two-story concession stand and state-of-the art press and luxury boxes, which loom imposing over the still-unfinished field.
The outfield is a muddy quagmire, soaked in the recent rains and littered with construction equipment.
Originally, the stadium demolition was delayed until Oct. 1 of last year, but that delay has not changed the predicted completion date.
Recent campus construction projects are progressing at different rates and different levels of inconvenience.
While some recent projects will be complete in a few months, it will be years before the fences for other projects finally come down.

If proposed modifications to UNC's development plan get approved, baseball players at UNC might have to spend some time playing on another field.
Proposed renovations to Boshamer Stadium could take longer than just the offseason.
Upgrading Boshamer and Kenan stadiums are among the University's goals with the third modification to the development plan, submitted to the town of Chapel Hill in August.
The development plan is linked to the campus master plan, which guides development for the next 50 years.
